Small Business
Small businesses have played a vital role in our community during the Covid-19 pandemic, with many keeping their doors open and their kitchens running to serve us. However, when Covid-relief efforts were implemented, not all of these businesses received the support they needed and expected.
Another issue facing small businesses is the lengthy process of opening a new establishment, which can take nearly two years. This can be a significant obstacle for small business owners and may discourage some from even attempting to start a business in the first place.
I have also noticed that our community lacks support for small businesses, with many small businesses in the area struggling to stay afloat, due to lack of foot traffic, high operating costs and limited access to resources and assistance. This results in a lack of economic growth and job opportunities in the area, and a lack of vibrant, diverse business community.
Solutions: Increase Foot Traffic
To address the issue of lack of foot traffic and high operating costs, Francine would work to promote the development of new sidewalks, bike lanes and improve public lighting in the area, which would increase accessibility and make it safer for customers to access the small businesses.
Solutions: Business Education
Francine would work to connect small business owners with resources and assistance, including small business loans, mentorship programs and networking events. This would help small businesses to grow and create jobs, thereby improving the economic growth of the area and building a vibrant, diverse business community.
Solutions: Support Business Owners
Francine would advocate for more robust support for small businesses affected by events like the pandemic. Additionally, Francine would also work to streamline the process of opening a new establishment by identifying and addressing any unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles and reducing the time it takes to open a business.
